In my part of the world the celebration of Valentines Day just recently crept in, to join the happy friends christmas, easter and (another newcomer) halloween. Well I am not sure its actually all the way up there in the heavy weights league, but I am sure it would love to be there, and just as important, everybody can use it for something it seems.

And when they use it for pushing fabulous music, such as this, I shall not complain.

A new EP from Vanessa daou, the priestess of poetry and slow burning sensual music, is something to look out for, and also this time its great stuff coming out from New York and her own label Daou Records.

Here is the video for DJ Banders “Down in the Garden Mix” – a jazzy sensual tune that should go very well with almost every brand of insense, redwine or what ever your choice of afrodisiac would be.

Its a fantastic ride that you want to take over and over again.

Pale Seas

Winter has landed in my backyard and a lot of effort goes into keeping warm. You should think that after a good many years on these northern cold plains one would get used to it. But no, I haven´t. Its still the same, winter comes and you only want one thing… summer.

But nevertheless I have crept out from under my thick grandmotherly woolen carpet and dug out a little pearl of a track that will hopefully help you good and well into the forthcoming weekend – no matter how hot or cold your surroundings may be.

This slowburning smooth guitar track by Pale Seas is a little pearl that I sincerely hope you will enjoy as much as I do.

I worked with Ronny Morris for some time now, remixing the tracks from his debut album, either with my partner Berry Sode in our collaboration called Polar Rundfunk, or as Ganga.

The one I found this week is a Ganga remix that I made a few weeks back in conjunction of the release of Ronnys tracks for danish radio.

Its really a kind of strange combination of Ronny Morris´s potent rock voice and then the soft productions that is Gangas trademark  – or has been for a while anyway. There seem to be developing some interest of our collaboration on these tracks. A few tracks already on chillout and downtempo compilations around the globe, and the radio in Denmark has also been giving the tracks some airplay.

that I want to share with you here on the brink of the ever returning weekend. Its a girl from Oregon, singing about a town called La Grande. Yes, I know, for all those of you who arent tree- or townhuggers it might seem trivial, but stay tuned and listen closely to this mellow song from a little town in Oregon US.

My guess is that a good deal of you chill- and downtempo loving people will actually take a fancy to this little song. I know I did. So please enjoy the soft tones from Laura Gibson.

Its friday morning. Are you wondering what to do with the weekend? Going skiing? Or to the beach? Playing with your kids, a trip to the forest, wondering the streets bewildered of the whole concept of …. weekend.

Chill out, any which one of these weekend occupations can be fine. I just hope you will consider spicing it up with some music that I dug up yesterday.

Fauna – Hongo x Hongo

Fauna is setting the bar in the argentinian genre called Tropitronica. The two british programmers are mixing reggae, raggaton, IDM, jungle and breakbeat in their own special brew thats becoming increasingly popular. Over time, their primarily instrumental productions were enriched with raga and hip hop rhymes, and they were on the way into new territory.

Now we can all lean back and enjoy their creations and hope for more tune from the two guys with their very own take on what american roots can also mean. They started this journey back in 2003, lets hope they are around for many more years.

Mayer Hawthorne – You Got The Makings Of A Lover (PillowTalk Edit)

When he was signed on to the label they had a really hard time believing that it was actually brandnew songs they were listening to. So close to the old Motown sound is these productions, that even Peanutbutter Wolf got surprised. Butter smooth vocal and a backdrop that sound like 1972  – when you listen closer you can hear the filters and breakbeats are modern ofcorse, but still a very good and convincing job and great songs.

The selfttaught multi instrumentalist Mayer Hawthorne never intended to take his croonings out of the bedroom, but I think a lot of retro lovers are very happy that he did. Giles Peterson, the influential DJ from BBC Radio 1, has taken a fancy to him also.

Originally from Ann Arbor in Michingan he grew up listening to the Motown stars of the time such as Isaac Hayes, Leroy Hutson, Mike Terry, and Barry White. Those he counts among his greatest influences and its is partly because of these old giants that we are lucky to have Mayer Hawthornes tracks among us today.

Heading fullon into the festive season, holiday season or whatever you chooose to call it, there is a strong general demand in this part of the world for… entertainment. And lots of it, and then a little more.

Here is my contribution to possible holiday listening material. At least one track that I think you should hear.

Gotye, or  Wally De backer as his name is, is an australian singersong writer who hadf over 19 million views on youtube  for his video “Somebody That I Used To Know.” His music, here remixed by Biblio, is soft like velvet and creeps under your skin, not slowly, but in a pulasting wave that you can alsmost see with your own eyes, pushing its way under your skin like a big snake.

Vocal lines are not what you normally hear from the average singer-song writer artist.

Nice oldschool claps and synt lines also on this slow electro inspired remix by Biblio.

Kick back and let Gotye smoothe you into the holiday season with his velvet tones.

Getting into the weekend can be hard. This time I apologize for being late with this weekly blog about downtempo, chilled and electronic music.

I guess the holiday season has taken me by surprise… again.

I dug up this little pearl from danish chill out producer Ganga.

I can assure you this is the first place you will get to hear this track, lets just say that I have some inside information reg. this

It is in the style that Ganga has become known to produce over the last eight years, since his downtempo debut on danish chillout label Music For Deams. “I Dream About Trees” was the debut album and since then four full albums has followed, alongside  two remix EPs and appearances on over 100 chillout compilations across the globe.

So get ready to put your feet up and pour your favourite long drink. If you are lucky enough to be situated near a clean blue horizon, I suggest you direct your attention in that direction – this is the music for it.

Guitar grooves, nice percussion and mellow dubby vibes all over. Enjoy the chill.
