This is one of them and I must say, that even that I get it that some people think its blasfemi, I really think this guy has a great dusty voice and lies comfortably on top of this hiphoppish dubby thing. Nice chilled downtempo flavours is coming your way with this brand new release.  The single is taken from his critically acclaimed album “Undercover” and features Bang Data, Afrolicious and MC Zulu and have remixes by DJ Sabo and Kush Aurora.

This sounds like summer in very southern city full of people dancing around blowing their trumpets and jumping up and down to these very groovey beats from J. Boogie.

I believe it was Claude Challe and DJ Ravin who originally started that musical journey which is still spinning. Today it is only Ravin who is the musical selector of this ethnic inspired musical collection of carefully chosen down- and uptempo music.

Now the brand is huge, with restaurants and clubs all over the globe – all bearing the Buddha Bar brand.

The compilation series sold many copies when they started out around 1998 and still continues to be one of the best selling downtempo and chillout compilations around. WIth tons of other compilations trying to get in on the action, by using use the Buddha Bar brand in a slightly changed manner.

But also George V suffer  from less CD sales – like so many others who used to sell many CDs. Ofcourse they also changed to sell downloads and bundle product in the meantime.

We have now reached Buddha Bar XVI, and the track I chose is a Ganga remix of a Ronny Morris track called Al about Love.

The broadcast starts out with a very nice track by Vishal Vaid – “bittersweet”. Taken from a 3o track free release on Yogi Tunes. I encourage you to stop by and take a listen.

Vishal Vaid is a very interesting singer and poet coming out of the ancient  poetry practice known as Ghazal. Today this practice is mostly used in singing and thats also how Vishal Vaid is using it.

For many years he has been combinig influences from the west and the east into his own special blend. Working with noteworthy artists such as Anoushka Shankar, Bill Laswell, Michael Franti and Karsh Kale, whose band Bhoom Shankar he provided the vocals for.

Anyway, I found an old track this week. A track that I have heard and played countless of times over the last couple of years playing downtempo chilled DJ sets or just listening at home with the feet up.

The track is called “Dreamcatcher” and is written by Bahramji & Maneesh De Moor. This collaboration is one of those meetings between ambient western electronic music and a more spiritual orientated music from cultures whose music is born out of a close connection to the mystic or religious. In this case the roots are in Persia (Iran), where the singer and Santoor player Bahram-Ji  originates from.

Maneesh De Moor is from Holland and is an electronic based dutch producer primarily known for his ambient cuts and collaborations – often with many influences from eastern music.

Like in this case where they fused sufi inspired Santoor playing and singing with western electronic production. The results is very mellow and free flowing and great sounding.

Indeed a nice track to put on why staring into space or closing your eyes and listen to the soft waves on the beach.
